taking jw kids out of school for xmas week
by dobbie indid anyone else do this?the whole week?i was helping out at my sons school this morning and it was mentioned that one of the jw mothers had removed her child from school for two weeks prior to breaking up for xmas!i knew instantly who it was cos i haven't seen her at the school this week, and she is from a staunch elder family who married someone from my old congration who also has a family of staunch elders/pioneers etc so i guess it should'nt surprise me but two whole weeks?
!this morning was a normal classroom lesson, ok the two jw kids went off and made mince pies(that made me laugh) but it was lessons as usual.
i'm surprised the school would allow this much time off to be honest.

I was always sent off to school and told that I needed to learn to make a stand for the truth! I wish my mom was that understanding while I was going up, it would have made things a lot easier.

Back of the hall stragglers... were you one?
by Fleshybirdfodder inthere were mother's with babies, there were those suffering from vericose veins that had to stand up.
what about the rest of us?
in my cong there were only a few "gifted ones" who'd do sound and it was behind the literature counter (our hall was tiny).

A good friend of mine was on mic duty the one evening and took a weee break, went to the loo with the mic in his pocket. The whole hall could hear the sound effects. Unzip, water...., flush, zip, washing of hands. At least he washed his hands. No one could keep a straight face. Mic duty was given to all the young guys regardless of how "good" or "bad" they were. Glad to say my friend is also an ex JW! Here's to you John

You got me all hot under the um..... collar. Sounds awesome. Always wanted to take up a class. Waiting for the kids to get a bit older so that I can leave them home alone while I do a bit of Dity Dancing.

How embarrassed were you to be a JW?
by exwitless ini, for one, was often embarrassed to be a jw; i always felt guilty about that, because it was always drilled into us that we should never be ashamed of our "religious heritage".
well, it's really hard to be the only one at your workplace who doesn't celebrate christmas, birthdays, etc.
it just draws so much unwanted attention to you, like when people try to tiptoe around certain subjects in your presence.

Yes!! All the time, preaching was the worst for me. I use to pray that I wouldn't bump into anyone I knew. I always felt guilty for having these feelings. ahhhh freedom!!!!!!!!

I just got one of *those* calls from my son's school
by daystar in*sigh* the joys of parenthood.. i just got a call from my son's school.
he gets picked up by his after school care in a van.
all the kids who get picked up are lined up outside to get ready for their rides.. my son decides it's a good idea to pick up a stick and throw it, hitting a car and putting a small dent in it.

Don't be too hard on him. When my daughter was five (she's now eight) She was throwing stones over our back wall and my neighbours car was parked there. Loads of damage to the car!! We first over reacted and the realised that she was too little to see over the wall and had no idea that the stones were hitting the car on the other side. I still thought at the time, this is what boys are suppose to do not little girls. We had to pay for the damage to the car and made her appologise. I don't think that at that age they even think of damage to other people's property. It was just the case of the stick was there and he felt like throwing it.

What effect does 'Apostate Pressure' have on the bOrg?
by AK - Jeff inwill increased pressure - pickets, websites, books, letters to fellow witnesses, have a positive or negative impact on the ultimate goal most apostates have - seeing the organization eventually crumble and fall?.
my take is that more pressure is good.
it makes the 'real personality' of the organization express itself in greater oppression, more demands, greater efforts to isolate the flock from education, career, family, reality.. eventual result of oppression is rebellion.

Just have a look at how many lurkers the are!! These are mostly JW's that are having doubts and they can come to sites like this and read the information available. It's private and no one needs to know that they are reseaching the borg. I think the internet is helping a lot of JW's make the final break from the org. I know this site and Beyond JW was very helpful for my hubby and I, when we started reading all the info there was no going back. I also think though that it only helps the ones that are already doubting and questioning. If I had come across this forum 10 years ago I would have no believed a word of it. Proberbly wouldn't have read much when I realised it was an "apostate" site.

A question about Birthdays....
by whyizit inmy friend (not baptized jw yet, but heading that direction) is having a birthday soon.
i received my last birthday card from her about two years ago.
i miss them too, because i don't have a lot of family left, and most of them don't even know when my birthday is!.
-
Mrs Smith
I think you should send her a card once again reaffirming your friendship with her. I got b-day cards while still a JW and it always made me feel loved. My mother is still very much in the borg and she phones me and my kids on our birthdays to say she's thinking of us that day. Never says the words "Happy Birthday" but at least she's thinking of us! So I do the same to her and my dad, just phone and tell them I'm thinking of them.

Local Kingdom Hall has windows
by Junction-Guy inthe local kingdom hall remodeled back in the summer, but for some reason i never noticed this until the other day as i was driving up the interstate.
this kingdom hall now has windows.
the windows appear to be about 10 inches wide by 6 feet.

I have heard about KH not having windows but I thought it was just uneducated people with nothing better to say about the JW. In South Africa all the KH have windows!! Windows or not I'm NEVER going back, but do the KH in your countries really not have windows? How strange. Will someone please let me know if this is true.
